James:
This book was written as a letter to Jewish Christians, with advice to:
- "Consider it pure joy...whenever you face trials...because...testing of your faith develops perseverance (i.e, persistence)." (James 1:2-3)
- "...Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry..." (James 1:19)
- "...those who are poor in the eyes of the world...to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom..." (James 2:5)
Other advice: take care of orphans and widows; help others; prove
you have faith by doing good works; don't brag; do not swear.
And, some further points:
- "...the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts." (James 3:5)
- "There is only One Lawgiver and Judge, the One Who is able to save and destroy...who are you to judge your neighbor?" (James 4:12)
- "Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his ways shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. " (James 5:20, from King James' Version)
